UNCAGED: Water Polo Just for Girls @ Chelsea Piers CT

The United States—with Maggie Steffens, Ashleigh Johnson, Rachel Fattal, Melissa Seidemann and Maddie Musselman—fields some of the greatest women to ever play water polo. Olympic gold medalists in 2012 and 2016—and a prohibitive favorite for a third gold this summer at the Tokyo Games—Team USA offers inspiration to athletes on these shores and beyond.

Except in the Northeast, where boys greatly outnumber girls when it comes to partaking in the world’s toughest sport.

The Northeast Zone of USA Water Polo, now under the leadership of Board Chair Andy Lewandowski, aims to change this imbalance—and encourage more girls to get in the pool and play.

[On The Record with Andy Lewandowski, Board Chair for USAWP Northeast Zone]

UNCAGED, a clinic for girls ages 13-18 on June 12 and 13 at Chelsea Piers (Stamford, CT), features accomplished women coaches and active players providing hands-on instruction in and out of the water. Skill drills and competitively balanced scrimmages will be led by Lynn Comer Kachmarik, a water polo pioneer and former Bucknell men’s polo coach, and Alyssa Diacono, head coach for Mount St Mary’s men’s and women’s teams. The UNCAGED experience includes fire gift bags, sisterhood and a Jolyn Pop-up Shop where girls can check out the latest water polo suits and gear.

The event is sponsored by CT Premier Water Polo Club, Jolyn, and KAP7.

For more information, please visit https://waterpolonortheast.godaddysites.com/ to register athletes for the NEZ UNCAGED: Girls-Only Clinic. The site will be frequently updated with new information, including additional opportunities for girls in the Northeast to play polo.
